Adriana's body was found in a vacant lot. Outrage over her murder led the muxé community to march against hate crimes for the first time.
Juchitán .— Adriana was murdered on March 12, 2009. Her terribly abused body was found in a vacant lot in the La Riviera subdivision, in Juchitán . Out of fear, her family did not file a complaint, but the crime led the muxe community to march for the first time. Hate crimes in the Isthmus region unified them with a single goal, justice.
The social outrage and the demonstrations forced the then State Attorney General, Evencio Nicolás Martínez Ramírez, to meet with the muxe community and with the family of Adán Sánchez López . The official promised to carry out the investigations; 13 years have passed without justice.
The crime was not even followed ex officio, Adriana's investigation folder is part of the 30 cases of hate crimes registered in the last 15 years in the Isthmus.
