Suppiah's body was found inside a water retention pond. Police believe she was murdered elsewhere and her body dumped in the pond.
THE body of a transgender woman found inside a water retention pond at Jalan Air Tawar, Air Panas in Setapak two days ago, has been identified as Kanan a/p Muthiah @ Suppiah.
The 42-year -old transsexual female with shoulder length hair was identified from her fingerprints as her personal documents were missing. Sentul district police chief ACP Zakaria Pagan said her last known address was 282-B, Batu 21/2, Jalan Ipoh, Kuala Lumpur.
When police conducted a check at the house, it was occupied by a family that does not know anything about her.
On Monday evening, the trans woman's body — clad in a blue T-shirt and a purple dress — was found floating by an angler who went fishing at the pond.
Police believe she was murdered elsewhere and dumped into the pond.
According to https://web.archive.org/web/20120415103105/http://www.yukishock.blogspot.com/2009/10/two-months-ago-another-transgender.html the victim was post-op.
On May 23, 2010 V. Raja was sentenced to death for her murder. On appeal this was commuted to life imprisonment in July 2024.
Raja, 35, was found guilty by the High Court in 2012 for killing M. Kanan, 42, at a flood retention pond in Lorong Air Jernih, Setapak, Kuala Lumpur, between 1am and 2am on August 24, 2009.
He failed in his appeals to overturn his conviction and death sentence at the Court of Appeal in 2013 and Federal Court in 2015.
Earlier, Deputy Public Prosecutor (DPP) Zulkpli Abdullah urged the court to uphold the death sentence, citing the extremely brutal nature of the murder and its apparent lack of motive based on the facts of the case.
He said on the night of the murder, Raja and a group of his friends went in a van to the location of the deceased.
The deceased, who was a transgender woman and worked as a [sex worker], was forced to enter the van and have sexual intercourse with Raja, who later stabbed her with a knife.
Raja’s lawyer T. Vijayandran had earlier pleaded for the court to give his client a chance to have his death sentence commuted to life imprisonment.
