Paola was beaten and stabbed at least 17 times by a group of sex workers, apparently following a dispute over work. The perpetrators fled in a vehicle.
A [trans woman] who used the name Paola, registered as [deadname], 40, was beaten and stabbed at least 17 times at around 1:30 am today, in Dourados. The crime involved eight other [trans women] and the motive was a dispute over prostitution.
According to the police report, witnesses were in the company of the victim, at the intersection between Avenida Joaquim Teixeira Alves and Rua João Cândido Câmara, in Dourados at a time when the [trans women] identified as Rahine and Kimberly arrived saying that they wanted to talk to Paola.
Accompanied by six other[trans women], and as soon as the victim turned away from the witnesses for the supposed conversation, each armed with knives and even iron bars, they started to attack her. Paola was killed with at least 17 stab wounds, 14 of them in the back and three in the neck, police said. In addition, the victim had head trauma.
According to statements made to the police, at the time when Paola was attacked, the witnesses ran and hid. From a distance they observed that the group had fled in a car and then they then called for first responders. Despite their efforts Paola died at the crime scene.
Five of the six tried for her murder were convicted in February 2018.
