Phoenix was killed by another inmate while incarcerated in the Mansfield Correctional Institution. They were taken to an area hospital but died of their injuries on 25 August.

According to Wikipedia, they had participated in the Black and Pink LGBTQ prisoner online pen pal program.

Note that Phoenix was not included in the official TDoR 2017 list released by Trangender Europe (TGEU) in November 2017.
