Brandy died in San Martin de la Plata hospital after 22 days of agony. She was the third of four trans women to die in La Plata as a result of criminalisation and humiliating police procedures — the others being Pamela Macedo Panduro, Angie Velásquez Ramírez and Damaris Becerra Jurado.
Brandy was originally from Iquitos, Peru, and resided in La Plata for 4 months.
It all started with a police raid in search of drugs at a house where Brandy rented a room. The Otrans organisation reported that the police entered the house without a court order, and forced the residents to the floor before confiscating their cell phones and money.
During this ordeal Brandy began to vomit blood. The police did not help her or call an ambulance, but just took pictures. When the raid was over, they took her to the hospital, where the doctors reported that she had suffered a cardiac arrest before arriving. Brandy was admitted to intensive care, but died 22 days later.
Brandy's death was not recorded on the official TDoR 2017 memorial list.
