Romina was stabbed in the chest by a man who approached her while she was working in the street.
Police patrolling the area found her lying on the ground injured. She died on the way to hospital.
Her murderer was apprehended by police and has confessed to the crime. According to the information released he had previously attacked another trans woman on 3rd October.
Like many trans women in Latin America, she had become a sex worker by necessity as a result of being unable to find work because of her gender identity.
In October 2019, Blas Enrique Amarilla Bobadilla, 25, was sentenced to 25 years in prison. After his arrest he had told a psychologist and psychiatrist that "he does not like that kind of people, nor his presence in the street," as a reason for the murder.
