Soroya owned a beauty salon. She was one of two people found shot dead near the Maraponga Lagoon on the morning of Sunday 12th July.

Two people were found dead on Sunday morning, 12, on the shore of Maraponga Lagoon, in the Integrated Security Area 9 (AIS 9) in Fortaleza. According to the Secretariat of Public Security and Social Defense (SSPDS), the victims were unidentified and had injuries caused by firearms. According to the Association of Transvestites and Transsexual Women of Ceará (Atrac), one of the victims was Soraya Oliveira, the owner of a beauty salon.

Subsequently it emerged that she was killed after witnessing the murder of a homeless man.
