Katherine was shot. She had previously reported been harassed by the police, who extorted money from her and threatened her.

LGBTI organizations in El Salvador condemned the murder of Katherine Rosmery Duvall, a trans woman whose crime has not been clarified by the authorities. Preliminary reports from the prosecutor's office indicate that Katherine was shot to death on the night of September 3 in the populated Altavista residential area, in the municipality of Ilopango, 14 kilometers east of the capital. But until today it has not been possible to reconstruct what happened. The state institutions did not provide further details on the event or the arrests of those responsible.

Katherine was dedicated to reading tarot, and the last that was heard of her was that she was preparing for the celebration of her birthday. "I am almost a birthday, my loves," she wrote on September 3 on her Facebook account.

The director of the Solidarity Association to Promote Human Development (ASPIDH) , Mónica Linares, told Presentes that two years ago Duvall had filed a complaint about police harassment.

“Katherine was harassed by the police. The police were the ones who paid her rent (extortion), came to her house and extorted money from her, taking televisions and things like that. And threatening her that if she did not give them to them, they would impose charges on her and they would take her to jail, "said Linares.

Presentes requested official information about Katherine's death from the National Civil Police, but the institution did not respond.
