Natasha passed away in a hospital intensive care unit two weeks after being beaten in the street by a group of 5 people while returning from a party.
The transsexual [woman] Natasha Nascimento, 29, died in the early hours of this Saturday (24), in São Luís, who had been beaten just over a month ago while returning from a party in São Luís Gonzaga, 258 km from the capital of Maranhão.
Natasha had been hospitalized for two weeks at Hospital Dr. Carlos Macieira, São Luís. The cause of her death was not disclosed. Her condition was considered to be serious.
Three suspects were subsequently arrested.
Three detainees, two women, a shotgun and seized vehicles are the result of an investigation by the Civil Police in the case of the death of transsexual [woman] Natasha Nascimento, 29 years old. Investigations continue with the interrogation of detainees, investigation of information, due diligence in the area, examination of vehicles and investigation of hypotheses about injuries found on her body. The victim died on Saturday (24), after spending two weeks in hospital with ribs broken and her jaw dislocated.
“One of the suspects was arrested while carrying a gun without a permit. We have an inquiry underway and are conducting the investigation with interrogations, due diligence and the necessary analysis of the apprehended elements. The suspects deny any involvement in the case,” said Bruno Figueiredo Aguiar, chief operating officer of the Civilian Interior Police Superintendency (SPCI), which conducts investigations in the municipality.
The police are investigating the lives of the prisoners and are still serving six search and seizure warrants. The detained man owns the motorcycle used in the crime and his arrest was in flagrante delicto for the illegal possession of a firearm - with him was found a 16-gauge shotgun. The two women prisoners are known and one of them has been involved in a fight with the victim. The two were together on the motorcycle on the day of Natasha's death.
Natasha Nascimento was returning from a party, when she was beaten while passing the municipality of São Luís Gonzaga on the BR-316 highway. Body examination identified broken ribs, dislocated jaw and several fractures. In a decision last year, the Federal Supreme Court (STF) determined that discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity becomes a crime.
