Fran died in hospital from COVID-19. She had been a professor at Universidade Federal do Recôncavo da Bahia since 2011 and was the leader, coordinator and researcher of LABTrans/UFRB.
Professor at UFRB dies after complications of covid 19
Professor Fran Demetrio passed away this Wednesday (28/07), after being hospitalized for a while to treat the symptoms of covid 19.
In a note the institution highlighted the importance of Professor Fran for the academic community of the Recôncavo:
“…Professor at UFRB since 2011, working at the Health Sciences Center (CCS), Fran was the first trans woman teacher at the institution, with outstanding performance in the Gender, Sexual Diversity and Education Center of the Pro-Rectory of Affirmative Policies and Affairs Students (PROPAAE) and in the Education through Work Program – PET – Interdisciplinary Bachelor of Health.
Fran Demétrio has a postdoctoral degree in Philosophy from the University of Brasília (UnB), holds a Ph.D. in Public Health from the Collective Health Institute of the Federal University of Bahia (ISC-UFBA), a master's degree in Food, Nutrition and Health from the University's School of Nutrition Federal da Bahia (ENUFBA) and graduation in Nutrition from ENUFBA. She is leader, coordinator and researcher of the (co)Human Laboratory for Transdisciplinary Studies, Research and Extension in Integrality and Intersectionality of Care in Health and Nutrition, Gender and Sexualities – LABTrans/UFRB.
