Thalía was a well known trans activist and community leader. At 11:30am on Monday 10th January, two men entered her home and shot her in the head. She died at the scene.

HONDURAS, Tegucigalpa . "I'm afraid, come help me" were the last words of the trans leader Thalia Rodríguez, 45, before two men murdered her on Monday at 11:30 in the morning with several bullets in the head when she was at home , on the slopes of Cerro Juana Laínez, south of Tegucigalpa, Honduras.

Her partner Walter, who was with Thalía at the time of the attack, received gunshot wounds in various parts of the body, but managed to survive the attack. An ambulance took him to a hospital to treat him.

Forensic Medicine personnel were in charge of lifting Thalía's body inside the house. Meanwhile, various police elements were guarding the area. In addition to the trans activist, there were other people in the house, who were not injured during the shooting.

Thalía, born in 1976 and living in Tegucigalpa since she was two years old, had long worked in defense of the rights of trans women. She was also known as a leader by the community where she lived, on the slopes of Juana Laínez . Her neighbors greeted her happily as she passed through the steep streets of the colony. Thalía was also known for her work in favor of the legalization of the lands of the colony in which she resided.

This Monday, trans activist Thalía Rodríguez was murdered at her home in Honduras.

It is the first crime against LGBT + people this year in the country.

A member of MS-13 was arrested in connection with her murder later the same month.

Authorities in Honduras have arrested a suspected gang member in connection with the murder of a transgender activist.

Reportar sin Miedo, the Washington Blade’s media partner in Honduras, reported the Honduran National Police on Sunday announced agents with its Directorate of Investigations arrested a 28-year-old man for the Jan. 10 murder of Thalía Rodríguez in front of her home in Tegucigalpa, the Honduran capital.

The Honduran National Police in their press release notes the man — known as “Karma” or “Fantasma” — is a member of MS-13.

A second suspect was arrested in March:

The Special Prosecutor for Crimes Against Life (FEDCV), in coordination with members of the Police Investigations Directorate (DPI), carried out four home searches to capture one of the alleged perpetrators of the murder of Thalía Rodríguez Rivera.

During the raids in the Juana Laínez, Aarón Jeriel Álvarez Pavón was captured.

In December 2022 Pavón was convicted of Thalía's murder. He is due to be sentenced in January 2023.
