The Court of Jury of the District of Patos de Minas met this Monday (13) to judge the accused of murdering the [trans woman] Duda Marins, in March last year. Daniel Lima da Silveira, 39, confessed to the crime and was charged with double homicide by the Public Prosecutor's Office.
The crime took place on March 7, 2022 at Daniel's house, in the Santa Luzia neighborhood. Duda went there with other people to use drugs. They fell out and Daniel hit the victim several times with an axe. The body was found in the morning. Dudley's face was disfigured.
Daniel fled, but was found days later and arrested in the city of Belo Horizonte. He has been imprisoned since then awaiting trial. The Civil Police investigated the case as robbery, but the Public Prosecutor's Office understood that the complaint should be for doubly qualified homicide, for a base reason and for the resource that made it difficult for the victim to defend herself.
The defense argued that the disagreement was motivated by a threat from people at the scene, that they would take over Daniel's house. But after listening to the arguments of the Public Prosecutor's Office and the Public Defender's Office, the jurors found Daniel Lima Silveira guilty. Daniel was sentenced to 16 years in prison under closed regime.
