Nancy was shot by a man who then fled the scene. She was a member of Colectivo Trans Trébol.
On July 2, Nancy Sacul Tut, a trans activist and human rights defender, was murdered in the Guatemalan capital. According to the National LGBTI Human Rights Observatory, there have been 16 deadly attacks against this community so far this year.
Nancy Sacul, of the Q'eqchi' ethnic group, was 34 years old and a member of the Colectivo Trans Trébol. The activist was originally from the municipality of Chisec, Alta Verapaz.
According to the information provided by the Collective to the national media, Nancy was shot to death by a man who fled.
This new transfemicide was strongly condemned by several Guatemalan organizations and groups that work in defense of the rights of the LGBTI community.
The Human Rights Ombudsman immediately opened a case file. He also reported that he will monitor this and other situations of violence against people of sexual diversity.
Of the 16 people killed so far in 2022, 5 were trans women, 9 were gay men, one lesbian, and one bisexual man.
