CHENNAI: Three days after a transgender person's body was recovered from a canal in Selaiyur, police on Thursday said they had arrested two men who had murdered her in a road rage incident. The two hacked her and fled with her two mobile phones, which led the police to them.
Police said Rajaji, 30, and Chandran, 28 of Chitlapakkam had attacked [deadname], alias Dayallammal, 50, of Mappedu in Tambaram after their two-wheeler accidently collided with her scooter on Sunday. Police said the two were high on ganja and hacked the transgender when she refused to let them leave the scene. They fled with her phones after dumping the body in a nearby canal.
Monday Dayallammal's family filed a missing person complaint after calls to her phones went unasnwered.
Police tracked one of the mobile using the IMEI (International Mobile Equipment Identity) number, which led them to a shop in Burma Bazaar. The shopowner said two men had sold the phone for 10,000.
Police scanned CCTV camera footage to catch Rajaji, 30, and Chandran, 28 of Chitlapakkam.
