Verónica was murdered by a group of men in a park. The alleged perpetrators were arrested.
Bogotá, Jul 29 (EFE).- A group of men murdered a transgender woman in Medellín (northwest) on Sunday, the twelfth trans victim so far this year and the 28th among the entire LGTBI community, according to the NGO Caribe Afirmativo, which warned that "Colombia is no longer a safe place for trans people."
The 26-year-old woman, Verónica Dantes, who was a collaborator of this entity [www.infobae.com], was "brutally" attacked with blows and a knife by three individuals in the Boston Park in Medellín in the early hours of July 28, after which she was transferred to the hospital, where she arrived dead.
The alleged perpetrators of the crime were arrested and brought to court to face charges of homicide.
After arriving in Colombia in 2018 and living in different parts of the country, Verónica settled in Medellín, where she joined Caribe Afirmativo and joined groups of trans people with a migration focus in the city, as well as activist groups for the right to "make use of public spaces without being harassed by actors outside the law."
Caribe Afirmativo warned that this year the underreporting of cases has worsened and the murders of trans people, especially women, have increased in the capital of Antioquia, with a gradual increase in cases since 2022.
