Ayla and her (cisgender) friend Anna Clara Ramos Felipe were tortured and killed in what may have been a targeted execution.
Two people were arrested during investigations into the deaths of two young women, found in a wooded area and with signs of torture, in the city of Tangará da Serra, just over 240 km from the capital Cuiabá (MT), the Mato Grosso Civil Police reported this Thursday, 30.
The bodies of Anna Clara Ramos Felipe and Ayla Pereira dos Santos, both 18 years old, were found at the back of a house in the Vila Nazaré neighborhood, on the night of Wednesday, the 29th. The victims showed signs of torture, such as burns on their bodies, and were gagged.
According to authorities, the young women had been missing since Tuesday, the 28th, according to reports from family members. However, on Wednesday, the police received a report that they had been killed.
During investigations to identify the suspects of the crime, the Civil Police arrived at the address of a 19-year-old woman, who was already being monitored in an operation against drug trafficking. The suspect told the team that she saw two young women tied up inside a house in the region and later witnessed that the bodies were taken to the back of the property, in a pasture area, indicating the location.
According to the Civil Police, Anna Clara's body was hidden in a bush and had burn marks on her back. Ayla, a young [trans woman], was buried in a shallow grave and also had burn marks. Both had gags in their mouths.
In the house near where the bodies were found, the team seized an iron bar, similar to the marks found on the two young women, as well as a shovel, a pickaxe, an excavator and portions of drugs. All the material was seized and sent for forensic analysis.
After the arrest, the police also located a second suspect involved in the crime, a 34-year-old man, who was arrested and taken to the police station . Both suspects will be charged with the crime of concealing a corpse. The police are still searching for other suspects.
Speaking to TV Centro América, police chief Igor Sasaki, who is responsible for the case, stated that the deaths were ordered by a criminal organization. However, the Civil Police are still investigating whether the victims were involved with factions.
