Anastasia passed away three weeks before her 20th birthday. She loved music, singing, rapping and dancing but had been born into a precarious situation and never found her way out of it.
Anastasia Matic was famous in the streets but not on the internet or in newspapers. Tomorrow would be her 20th birthday but sadly she left us this february with just 19 years on this earth. She loved music, singing, rapping, dancing. She was born into a precarious situation and sadly never found her way out of it. Her life was marked by foster care, prison, psychiatry, drugs and men that took advantage of her. But at the same time also by having fun with people, laughing, singing, dancing, dressing up and following her own will. Often she was overwhelmed with herself, she longed for guidance and structure and at the same time opposed it. It felt as if there was a strong wind driving her.
Sometimes strong, randomly leading her to places she had never been. Sometimes the wind died down, leaving her overwhelmed in the emptiness. By the time she went missing she was homeless officially but she stayed with a friend which made her feel at home. She was missing from this home since the 02.02.2026. On the 05.02.2026 we alarmed the police and the KESB (protection for children and adults in Switzerland). The police said that they can do nothing, as we are not related to her, even tho her blood family was never taking care of her. The KESB said that they will do something but they won't tell us what, as we are not blood related. Later Anastasias Social Worker told us that the KESB never informed her about us telling them about her being missing. Wich leads me to think that also KESB did nothing to prevent Anastasias death. On the 08.02.2026 the police was informed about her death. They went to the place and she had died in the appartment of a stranger, choked on her own vomit. We will never know whos appartment she was in and what the exact circumstances were.
I wish for the state to recognize chosen family, because then maybe her death could have been prevented. Also I wish for everyone to take trans women seriously also and especially the ones that live on the street also and especially the ones with addiction problems. I believe that police and KESB also neglected the case because they thought "we know this person and she is anyways always (in) trouble. why should we do something now?" but in this they didn't take serious the knowledge of her chosen family that knew what was going on was not her normal patterns that yes were also precarious and often dangerous. We knew that something was off and in the end our fears became reality.
She was a daughter, a sister, a friend. We all miss her.
