Warner Robins, Georgia (USA)
Dymun went missing on 2nd April 2016. A human skull was found with gunshot wounds on 12th May 2016, but was not identified by DNA testing as hers until September 2019.
Her date of death and the identity of her killer (or killers) are unknown.
Dymun was obviously not included on the TDoR 2016 memorial list released in November 2016 by Transgender Europe (TGEU). The date of her identification is used for this report in order that she might be remembered at TDoR 2019 this November.
"After more than three years, DNA confirmed the human remains from 2016 Macon homicide case are that of a transgender woman. DNA test results recently obtained by the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the match.
"Bibb County Coroner Leon Jones told The Telegraph on Friday the remains are Dymun Dupree, originally identified by Warner Robins police as [deadname].
"Dupree had been missing for two weeks on April 18, 2016, when the Warner Robins Police Department sent out a news release asking for the public’s help finding her. "The 26-year-old was last seen leaving home, on the north side of Warner Robins, just before midnight April 2. Four days later, Victoria Clark reported her cousin missing. She told police Dupree said she was going to hang out with friends but did not say where or with whom.
"On May 12, more than a month later, a man mowing grass at a vacant lot on Feagin Road, off Ga. 247, made a gruesome discovery. Amid the kudzu, briers and overgrowth, he found a human skull and called 911. "At the time, the sheriff’s department could only say that a person had been shot in the head. The sex and race of the victim were not apparent.
Investigators visited Dupree’s mother, Frankie Allen, and took a cheek swab so that her DNA could be compared to the victim’s remains. In January 2017, DNA from the remains was sent to the Center for Human Identification at the University of North Texas. There, forensic scientists developed a DNA profile and compared it with DNA from Allen that was obtained using the swab.
“It’s just hard when you don’t know what to think,” Allen told The Telegraph in a May 2018 interview. The last time Allen saw Dupree, she was sitting on her porch reading the mail. The two told each other, “I love you.”
Dupree enjoyed singing gospel music, her mom said. She ate cookies with milk daily, enjoyed drinking Coca-Cola Classic and smoking Newports in the morning.

Houston, Texas (USA)
Itali was shot multiple times by a man she was living with. He fled the scene on foot prior to the arrival of police officers.
I am not happy to report that we have lost another trans woman in my Houston area backyard to anti-trans violence.
She is 29 year old Itali Marlowe, and she was killed back on September 20 at 2 PM CDT on that date in the portion of Houston that extends into Fort Bend County.
HPD offices responded to a shooting call at 15829 Ridgeroe Lane and found the victim in the driveway of the residence. Marlowe had been shot multiple times, and was transported to a nearby hospital where she subsequently was declared deceased.
Rest in Power, Itali. We won't rest until the perpetrator is caught, prosecuted, and incarcerated for your murder.
Subsequently Raymond Donald Williams, 23, was arrested and charged with murder.

Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania (USA)
Elisha was found dead while visiting family in downtown Pittsburgh on Monday 16th September. The circumstances of her death have not yet been confirmed.
A Black transgender woman named Elisha Chanel Stanley — better known to some as Elisha Diamond — was found dead in Downtown Pittsburgh on Sept. 16.
The circumstances of Stanley’s death have not yet been determined by the Allegheny County Medical Examiner. But two weeks after her death, posts on social media claiming foul play went viral on Mon., Sept. 30, and DeVar Ferguson — a close friend of Stanley's — believes her death is suspicious. According to Ferguson, Stanley was meant to attend a gathering Saturday evening, but never showed.
Chris Togneri, public information officer for Pittsburgh’s department of safety, confirmed there is an open investigation into her death but declined to provide any further comment in an email Tuesday afternoon.
According to the Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s report, the victim was found deceased at the scene on Mon., Sept. 16, around 6:30 p.m., on the 1000 Block of Penn Ave., Downtown. (That address is listed as The Westin Pittsburgh hotel.) Stanley was listed on the report as a 46, female Black or African-American resident of Washington, D.C. The reports confirming Stanley’s death were provided Tue., Oct. 1.
Elisha was a professional mental health care worker who was working for MBI Health Services LLC in Washington DC. She had gone back to Pittsburgh to be with family.
Stanley was in Pittsburgh to visit some close friends, according to Ferguson, including themself and another of her “children." Ferguson describes Stanley as their “gay mother.”
“People don’t really understand where that term comes from,” Ferguson says. “There are a lot of runaways, and displaced and abused people in the community. Without being funded by any government organization, there are people [in this community] who have taken these people on and moved them in, clothed them, fed them, taken them to school, and really played that part as a mentor in their lives and those are all the things she did for me.”
Stanley and Ferguson first met in the late '90s. At the time, Ferguson says Stanley allowed them to move in while they were living in a shelter after having been kicked out. In 2002, Stanley moved to D.C. to “become the woman she wanted to be from the inside out,” and Ferguson moved with her. Ferguson returned to Pittsburgh in 2005 and now is a father in the way Stanley was a mother to them.
“She was my friend, someone who protected me, there was nothing she wouldn’t do for someone. She took me in and loved me like her own flesh and blood,” says Ferguson. “She spent her life opening doors for women like herself.”

Ja’leyah-Jamar was shot. Police have released a photo of a suspect being sought in connection with their murder.
The 19th reported murder of a transgender American this year took place Friday in Kansas City, Kan., according to local activists.
Kansas City police and local media have identified the victim, who was shot to death, as a 20-something man and have not released a name, but friends, relatives, and activists have posted on social media that she was a trans woman named Ja’leyah-Jamar.
Adriana Sanders, the victim’s cousin, posted the following on Facebook: “Ja’leyah-Jamar didn’t ask for this life... No one can control WHO they love God made us to live and love and to grow... It’s not our fault as a Transgender woman or a homosexual man to want to live a normal life...wanting to be in love have a family build your own legacy and because a Man could not accept who [they] [were] as [themself] and individual he felt the need to take my cousin’s life.”
“Another Black trans woman was killed in Kansas City this weekend!” activist Merrique Jenson posted on Facebook. “Kansas City is one of the epicenters of violence towards trans women of color, particularly Black trans women, in this country! I learned of the information yesterday and have checked in with some of the trans women who knew her directly. While she is still being misgendered and misidentified by most KC media outlets, community advocates have already begun to share updates as we learn more. I encourage agencies with social, political and financial power to do something about this.” Trans woman Brooklyn Lindsey was murdered across the state line in Kansas City, Mo., in June.
Of the 19 transgender Americans reported murdered this year, 18 have been black women, including Ja’leyah-Jamar.
Police have released a photo of a man being sought in connection with the Friday murder, along with two photos of his car, The Kansas City Star reports.
Subsequently relatives stated that Jamar was a gender nonconforming gay man rather than a trans woman. We obviously can't ask Ja'leyah, but it is not unusual for friends and family to have different perceptions of the gender of an individual.

Pomona, California (USA)
Andrew died by suicide while in the care of the transitional parenting system of LA County.
On Sept. 4, a 19-year-old foster youth stepped in front of a freight train in Pomona and was killed. The only mention of the fatality was a brief article published by OnScene.TV, which noted that an unknown pedestrian had been struck by a Union Pacific train at around 9:50 p.m.
Despite the lack of media attention, the death of the reportedly transgender young man — identified by a GoFundMe memorial as Yaeli Galdamez/Andrew Elijah Martinez — has prompted Los Angeles County leaders to conduct an immediate investigation into what they labelled as systemic issues in services for LGBTQ foster youth that could have prevented the death.
“Andrew M.’s death must be met with urgency to provide youth, including transition age youth in foster care, identified as LGBTQ+ with support and resources to live proud, productive, happy lives,” according to a motion proposed by Los Angeles County Supervisors Hilda Solis and Sheila Kuehl that will be introduced at the supervisors’ meeting on Tuesday.
The motion also calls for strengthening services such as more training for caregivers as well as providers across the region, and to find ways to minimize family rejection of youth who identify as LGBTQ. The need for specialized service for LGBTQ youth will also be discussed at a Monday meeting of the Los Angeles County Children’s Commission.

Call 911!” The 16-year-old then went outside and found the victim in a pool of blood in the middle of Parkwood Avenue. After police were called, the victim was transported to a hospital where she died.

Clewiston, Florida (USA)
Shot and burned
Bee's body was found inside her burnt out car. Some reports state that she had been tied up and shot.
Another Black trans woman has been murdered, this time in Clewiston, Florida. Her name was Bee Love. She was 21 years old, just a week away from her 22nd birthday. Clewiston is part of the Florida Heartland, a region closer to the Deep South than coastal Florida cities. It has been just 24 hours since we reported on the murder of 17-year-old Bailey Reeves in Baltimore. Our young people are dying at horrifying rates. Where is our progressive movement?
18 deaths. 17 have been Black trans women. 10 have been under the age of 23, 17 out of the 18 were under the age of 31. This is sickening and heartwrenching. And it doesn’t show any sign of stopping.
Local media are simply reporting on the discovery of an unidentified body in a burned vehicle. Other reports indicate Bee’s body had multiple gunshot wounds and that she may have been tied up in the front seat of the vehicle.
HENDRY COUNTY, Fla. – Early Wednesday morning, Hendry County deputies found a body in a burned vehicle They received a call about a vehicle fire near 13th Street and Virginia Avenue, Harlem, in the Clewiston area, according to a Hendry County Sheriff’s Office news release. Then, they found a body inside. Investigators said the body in the vehicle was burned beyond recognition.
Friends and trans activists are raising a hue and cry about the need for media coverage and for public information on the investigation. They are outraged that Bee’s death isn’t being more widely investigated.**
Friends have organized a vigil on Friday, September 6, 2019 at 7:30 PM. The location is Fremd Villages in Pahokee, Florida.
Friends and neighbours believe her murder was a targeted attack.
Transgender woman in Hendry County may have died in targeted attack
One man said his best friend was the one found inside a burned car in Hendry County. He believes the woman was targeted because she was transgender.
Kenard Wade tells WINK News he last saw his best friend Sunday. He talked to her the night he thinks she died.
Charred grass is seen around the vehicle that went up in flames. Many people in the community said it was a targeted attack, including Keisha Whittaker. “To me, it’s very devastating to know that life happens that way,” Whittaker said.
The suspected death is unsettling for many people in the Hendry County neighborhood. All that is left is a burned off patch of grass and scattered car parts. Davarin Harris saw the smoke from his front yard. He said he knew a car was on fire. However, he did not expect a body inside of it.
Wade said his best friend is the one whom Hendry County Sheriff’s Office Deputies found dead.
”That’s her car,” said Wade with visible pain. “I know that. I know her car.” Wade told us the two had known each other for six years and that his best friend was not afraid of anyone who did not agree with her lifestyle. But Wade said someone wanted to harm her. In text messages the night of the car fire, the victim knew it. The woman told him she wanted to leave town. She was expecting to get in trouble if she stayed here.
Subsequently Jamson Richemond, 29, was identified as a person of interest.
Update (September 26, 2019): A person of interest has been identified in the killing of 23-year-old Bee Love Slater.
According to the Hendry County Sheriff’s Office in Florida, Jamson Richemond, 29, is now wanted in connection to Slater’s death.
The 23-year-old Black trans woman was found “burned beyond recognition” inside of a charred vehicle in South Florida on September 4. Sheriff Steve Whidden described the situation as “gruesome” and said Slater was believed to have been targeted based on her sexual identity, New York Daily Newsreported.
According to NBC 2, investigators are looking into a Facebook post shared before Slater’s death that said, “Somebody needs to kill Bee Love.”

UPDATE: We’ve just been informed that the family of Keyiariah Quick, the Black trans woman we were told was found deceased on August 10th in NC, has asked that folks stop suggesting that she was killed.
They do not wish to publicly disclose what has happened to her, but we are asking that folk please respect their wishes.

Jordan was one of the victims of the Ohio mass shooting on Sunday 4th August. The perpetrator - his brother - was shot dead at the scene by police.
A victim of the Ohio mass shooting and sibling of the shooter, Jordan Cofer, has been revealed to be a transgender man by friends who say he has been deadnamed by the media.
The 22-year-old was among nine people killed in the attack in Dayton, Ohio on Sunday (August 4), but has been widely misgendered and deadnamed by police and the media. He has been labelled as the “sister” of Connor Bretts, the perpetrator of the tragedy.
A close friend of Cofer’s told Splinter over Twitter DM that he actually identified as a transgender man.
“Jordan was my closest friend,” the anonymous friend said. “He identified with he/him pronouns to people he trusted and knew would support him. Jordan was probably one of the sweetest people you would ever meet, a true saint, but he was also very scared constantly. He tried to give the best to everyone.”
According to his friend, Cofer was not out to his family, including his brother.
Cofer was one of the first of his brother’s victims. It is unclear to police if Betts intended to kill him or if Cofer was attempting to stop his brother from killing more people.
Jordan's Twitter and Tumblr accounts are https://www.twitter.com/jordandaroomie and https://www.tumblr.com/dashboard/blog/supernaturalpentaholic respectively.

Miami-Dade County, Florida (USA)
Kiki was reportedly shot shortly after 4:30 a.m. Wednesday in an area not far from her home. She died in hospital.
MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. - Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers is seeking information about the shooting death of a transgender woman that occurred in southwest Miami-Dade County.
The shooting was reported shortly after 4:30a.m. Wednesday in the area of Southwest 224th Street and 115th Court. Police said the victim, identified as Marquis "Kiki" Fantroy, was shot in the upper torso. She was taken to a local hospital, where she died. Fantroy's mother and other relatives fear she was targeted for her gender identity.
"I don't know what to believe. I don't know what to believe," Rhonda Comer said. "I never wanted to bury none of my kids."
Comer said Fantroy was just a few minutes from her home when she was killed.
Subsequently William Watson, 17, was arrested after being identified by a witness as the person who shot her.
Miami, Aug. 8 (EFEUSA) .- A 17-year-old was arrested as the alleged perpetrator of the shooting death of a transsexual woman in Miami-Dade County on July 31, local media reported Thursday.
A witness to the death of Marquis "Kiki" Fantroy identified William Watson, 17, as the person who fired the gunshots that killed him, according to county police.
Watson has been detained since Monday and has been charged with second-degree murder and attempted murder.
Witnesses told police, the young man, who is African American as his victim, had a discussion in the street of the Goulds neighborhood with someone who, along with Fantroy and others, was returning from a party in the early morning.
According to police, the discussion went up in tone and Watson pulled out a gun and first shot the person identified as "Victim Bell" and then chased and shot Fantroy several times, who was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital where they took her Emergency services
So far the police have not cataloged the case as a "hate crime", which means an aggravating point of view from the judicial point of view, although Fantroy's mother, Rhonda Comer, has publicly claimed that her daughter was attacked for being transgender.
"I think she was killed because of her desire to be a woman," the mother told a Miami newspaper.

Tracy was found dead in a gas station parking lot on I-10.
Her boyfriend Joshua Dominic Bourgeois, 25, was arrested.
Unfortunately we are in a moment in which the trans murders have been happening at a fast and furious pace in the last few weeks. The latest one happened in my Houston backyard back on July 30.
There was a July 30 news report of a woman found dead in a gas station parking lot along the eastbound feeder road in the 11000 block of the Katy Freeway (I-10 to the rest of y'all) at 3:34 AM CDT
Two local stations, ABC13 and FOX 26 reported her as a woman who did not die of natural causes, and HPD detectives were investigating the case. It took a week to pass here in H-town before we were advised by our HPD LGBT liaisons that the woman who was found along I-10 back on July 30 was actually trans and was murdered.
Dee Dee Watters subsequently organized an August 11 town hall meeting that led to us finally IDing Tracy so we can now officially #SayHerName.

North Charleston, South Carolina (USA)
Denali's body was found with gunshot wounds by the side of the road at 4am on Saturday 20th July.
North Charleston PD officers responded to a 4:05 AM EDT call of a body lying on the side of the road at 2721 Carner Avenue. They arrived at the scene to find 29 year old Denali Berries Stuckey dead from a gunshot wound
And as you probably guessed. local media misgendered her in their reporting.
Stuckey is the 12th trans woman to die this year in the US, with all of the known victims so far being African American. She is also the 8th one under age 30 to be killed in 2019.
Rest in power and peace, Denali. Hoping that the person who killed you is swiftly caught and punished to the full extent of the law.
As police investigate, family friend Ron'Rico Judon reflected on Stuckey's life, which he said she lived unapologetically and courageously. "She was a free spirit. She was very outspoken," Judon told ABC News. "If you didn't like the fact that she was trans, she would give you a piece of her mind."
Stuckey, a North Charleston native, ran a home childcare business and was a cosmetologist, Judon said.
"She was very loving," he said. "She always smiled, always laughed. Had this beautiful smile. Loved to dance." Judon said he's "devastated" and "heartbroken" by her death.
"Somebody that was deeply loved by so many was taken from us," he said. "To have the type of love and support that Denali had, not only from friends and the community, but family, that's rare."
Editor's Note: Denali's murder took place on the same day that thousands of UK trans folks were on the streets for Trans Pride Brighton. While we were marching for equality and an end to violence against trans people worldwide, another of our siblings was dying in the USA. Say Her Name.
On 10th August 2019 a warrant was issued for the arrest of Dominick Achield, 34.

Fairmount Heights, Maryland (USA)
Zoe was found lying in the street (not far from where Ashanti Carmon had been murdered in March) by police responding to an emergency call. She died at the scene.
A transgender woman was found Thursday just before midnight by Prince George’s County police who responded to a call in the 600 blocks of 59th Ave., in Fairmount Heights, Maryland.
23-year-old Zoe Spears died on the scene of multiple gunshot wounds according to police. Spears was murdered just blocks from where 27-year-old Ashanti Carmon had been murdered in March 2019.
Major Brian Reilly with Prince George’s County police said in the police video below that they don’t believe there are connections between the two murders, but police said Spears and Carmon knew each other.
Friends say Spears told multiple people she had witnessed Carmon’s killing and feared for her life. Spears was trying to move from her apartment on Eastern Avenue because she was afraid, friends say.
Zoe Spears had gotten off of the streets and was living independently. She was murdered close to where she lived.
Ashanti Carmon resorted to survival sex work after becoming homeless. She was murdered just a mile away in an area that residents say has become known for prostitution.
In July 2019 Gerardo Thomas, 33, of Baltimore, was arrested in Cecil County and charged with first-degree murder.
Rikers Island, New York (USA)
Died in custody
Layleen was found dead in a jail cell in the Rose M. Singer women's facility on Rikers Island on the afternoon of Friday 7th June.
At this moment we don’t have much information on what happened to my sister. All we know is that she got into a fight and got locked up and sent to Rikers she was there for a month and was due to come home the 13th of this month. We were notified yesterday that she was found dead in her cell with not much information. We will make sure her story is heard after we find out what happened. Please helps us lay her to rest. This was a very unexpected death and a big loss to her family and friends. Anything helps, thank you in advance as you all k ow Layleen loved you all even those that didn’t like her very much. Thank you all
Layleen had been incarcerated for a month on a misdemeanour charge, and was due to be released on 13th June. At the time of her death she was being held in solitary confinement.
Polanco was in the Rose M. Singer center, the women’s jail on Rikers Island, in a specialized unit for transgender women, according to a Correction Department spokesperson.
She was being held on $500 bail for prostitution and lowest-level drug possession charges stemming from a 2017 arrest, records show.
Jail officials put Polanco in solitary as punishment for her part in a fight, sources said.
An undercover cop arrested Polanco in August 2017 for allegedly agreeing to engage in oral sex for money and having what police called a crack pipe in her pocket, according to the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office.
A vigil for her was held on Monday 10th June.
On Monday, community will come together to demand justice for Layleen Polanco Xtravaganza who was found dead in her cell at Rose M Singer Center at Rikers last Friday evening.
NYC’s Department of Corrections established a trans housing unit to reduce violence against transgender and gender non-conforming people at Rikers. But “better” incarceration is still incarceration, and trans people are deeply unsafe in this system.
This tragic loss of yet another member of the trans community comes just days after the start of Pride season. There is no Pride to be had while trans folks continue to face an epidemic of fatal violence
Layleen was a member of the House of Xtravaganza, a preeminent group on the city’s ballroom scene.
Fellow house member Jimmy Xtravaganza spoke to THE CITY about Polanco after a demonstration for her in Manhattan’s Foley Square on Monday night.
He remembered his five-foot-three, Dominican-born friend as “so spunky, so full of life.”
“And positive, always, never, ever, ever drama,” he said. “She was a hell of a time. A beautiful person, never really in conflicts.”
Melania Brown, Polanco’s sister, spoke to the crowd at Foley Square through tears. “They treated my sister like she was nothing for how she decided to be happy,” she said.

Chanel was found just after midnight by Robeson County Sheriff’s Office deputies who arrived after reports of gunfire in the area. She had been shot.
A Black transgender woman was found murdered in North Carolina this past Wednesday.
Chanel Scurlock, 23, was found just after midnight when Robeson County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrived after receiving reports of gunfire in the area. She had been shot.
Police said that her car was missing at the time of her death but that it was found later in the day. They did not say where.
The police, local media, and Scurlock’s mother identified her as a gay man, misgendered her, shared pictures of her presenting as male, and deadnamed her in media reports. Robeson County Sheriff Burnis Wilkins went so far to refer to her as “Mr.” in a Facebook post.
Her Facebook account, though, uses “she” pronouns and the name “Chanel,” only has photos of her presenting as female, and her friends referred to her as a woman.
“You lived your life as you wanted,” Kandice Stigger, a friend of the victim, wrote on Facebook. “I’m proud of you for being unapologetically correct about your feelings and expectations of YOU.”

Dallas, Texas (USA)
Chynal's body was found after someone called the police to report a body in White Rock Lake. Police reported that her body showed “obvious signs of homicidal violence”.
A second black transgender woman was found dead over the weekend in Dallas. This past Saturday, police found the body of Chynal Lindsey, 26, in White Rock Lake after someone called police to report a body in the lake.
At a press conferences, Police Chief U. Reneé Hall said Lindsey’s body had “obvious signs of homicidal violence.”
Hall said that Dallas Police have reached out to the FBI to help with the investigation because of a possible connection to another trans woman who was murdered in the Dallas area.
“We are concerned, and we are actively and aggressively investigating the case,” Hall said.
Last month, Muhlaysia Booker was found shot to death in Dallas. A month prior to being murdered, she was beaten by a mob that shouted anti-LGBTQ epithets like “That’s what your faggot ass gets” and “Get that faggot out of our hood.”
In August 2019 Rubén Alvarado, 22, was charged with her murder.
A grand jury in Dallas County charged a young Hispanic man with the murder of a transgender woman found dead at White Rock Lake in Dallas on June 1.
Chynal Lindsey, a 26-year-old African-American woman, died of an obvious violent homicide, police said.
Rubén Alvarado, 22, remains in the Dallas County jail on $ 500,000 bail and investigators say he refuses to cooperate with the investigation.
However, a murder charge filed today reveals more details about Lindsey's death, specifically that investigators believe Alvarado drowned and hit Lindsey with his hands, a belt and other object that caused blunt trauma to the woman's body. .
The accusation did not include any information about the reason for the attack, but police said Alvarado's phone contained GPS data that showed the device in the exact place where Lindsey's body was recovered.

Died in custody
Joa was a detained Salvadorian asylum seeker. She had been asking for medical help for nearly 2 months, but ICE only took her to hospital after she lost consciousness.
* ICE is Immigration Customs Enforcement, a US federal agency known to mistreat detained asylum seekers.
Grecia, a trans activist from Casa Migrante in Juarez, Mexico who accompanied Joa until the end said the following:
"Her name was Johana Medina, known to her friends as Joa. She was in ICE detention for two months in a New Mexico facility. For weeks she pleaded for medical help, referring to health problems caused by complications with HIV/AIDS.
After two months of suffering, Joana became extremely ill and unconscious forcing ICE to take her to Las Palmas del Sol Hospital in El Paso, Texas. This morning I went to visit her at the hospital intensive care unit. When I looked at her I said that what happened a year ago to Roxana in the month of May could happen to Joa right in there.
And it did. Unfortunately today at 21:00 hrs I got called by the hospital to tell me that she had passed away... ¨
Diversidad Sin Fronteras issued the following statement:
“We regret to inform the community that ICE has taken one more of our sisters. Johana Medina aka Joa, a Salvadoran trans woman has died in ICE custody in a hospital of El Paso, Tx yesterday at 21:00.”
“We’re seen as people that aren’t part of society. Like we’re a disease. Inhuman.” said the five trans asylum seekers interviewed by the San Antonio Express-News who are in or recently released from the Pearsall detention center.
Joa is the 23rd person overall and the second trans person to die while in ICE custody according to an NBC report dated Jan 6th 2019. Most like Roxana Hernández have died due to the Trump administration’s uncaring erratic detention policies. Adding insult to injury many and have suffered continuing inhumanities as the Government lies about and tries to hide their deaths.
We will update when more information becomes available.
Rest in Power Joa.
Later the same day a friend issued the following update:
This the latest info I have gathered from family and friends regarding Joa's passing in ICE detention. Dates are approximate and they are gathered from phone convos:
Before April 11th: She had been waiting for her number #7326 to come up for her to present legally to seek asylum. She waited nearly three months in Juarez.
April 11th: She presented to CBP in El Paso, Tx. According to testimonies from her boyfriend and other trans women present: "she was told she was not trans", that "she was a man." Unlike her other comrades, she was not paroled out but sent to Otero County Processing Center.
May 21st: She calls her boyfriend to El Salvador telling him that she is not feeling well. She tells him she misses him and that was the last time he spoke to her.
From April 11th to May 23rd or 24th: Her health deteriorated. In El Salvador she was a certified nurse so she knew she was unable to take medication orally and in repetitive occasions she told ICE officers she needed an (IV) solution, that she could do it herself but she just needed the medication.
May 23th-25th: ICE decides to take her to the hospital after she appears to be unconscious. According to family members, she was granted release on recognizance the day she was dropped off at the hospital.
June 1st: Her uncle and Grecia, a trans leader from Juarez are notified Joa has passed away in Las Palmas del Sol hospital at 9:05pm.
She was loved by all of her family including her grandma the main reason for her to travel thousands of miles to be detained in inhumane conditions. She was unable to practice her nursing profession as an open trans woman so her dream was to come to the US to get certified and make a living healing people.
We send condolences to her partner, family, and friends.
Subsequently it emerged that ICE had deliberately withheld even basic medical care.
Medina León, who worked as a nurse in El Salvador, recognized that she needed IV fluids, but was denied. When she asked for water, sugar and salt so she could make her own IV, Ice also refused, the claim said. The treatment in Ice custody was so bad that Medina León, who was fleeing violence in her home country, requested to be deported so she could get medical attention, lawyers said. That request was also denied.
“She came to the US because she thought it was a great country and that she would be safe there,” her 22-year-old sister, Gabriela León, said in an email to the Guardian, sent by her lawyer. “She did everything right but was treated as a criminal … She shouldn’t have died. She went to the US seeking protection and now she is coming home to us dead.”
Christopher Dolan, an attorney who filed the claim, added: “She was desperate, because the government would not provide her with assistance of any kind for her medical needs.”

Portland, Oregon (USA)
Titi was found hanging from a tree in a park. The coroner ruled her death a suicide, but her family and friends believe she was murdered.
According to the Portland Mercury, Titi was genderfluid: her family knew her as a cisgender gay man named Otis who sometimes dressed in drag - but among friends, Gulley typically presented as a woman, used she/her pronouns, and went by the name Titi.
As she is now deceased, we obviously can’t ask her which pronouns we should use. With the exception of quotes from family members, this page uses her female name and pronouns because that is how she usually presented publicly.
A Black, Queer, Homeless Portlander Was Found Hanging from a Tree. Police Say It's Suicide. Her Family Disagrees.
On the afternoon of May 27, police officers found the body of a Black, queer, homeless person hanging from a tree in Rocky Butte Park.
According to the Portland Police Bureau (PPB), the death of Otis/Titi Gulley, 31, has been ruled a suicide. Her family, however, isn't as quick to settle on this conclusion.
Weeks after her death, Gulley's family is still struggling to find answers about the mysterious circumstances surrounding the end of her life. Since the night of Gulley's death, they have found the PPB to be unreceptive to their concerns. Kenya Robinson, Gulley’s mother, told the Mercury she believes some of this indifference has to do with Gulley's identity.
“You didn’t ask any questions,” said Robinson, referring to the PPB. “You saw a Black man in a tree who was in a homeless camp, and you wrote him off as being a transient homeless, and wrote it off as a suicide.”
Gulley had been homeless for most of her adult life, and also struggled with mental illness that Robinson said was caused by a difficult birthing process. Gulley was in regular contact with her mother and three siblings, and had been working with the homeless services nonprofit JOIN to try to find housing shortly before she died. Robinson said she had many friends in Portland’s homeless community, and was known by friends and family as a cheerful, helpful, and loving person.
“He was always wanting to help,” Robinson said. “‘Want me to cook? Want me to do your nails, do your hair, do something for you? Take the trash out?’ That’s just him.”
Though Gulley faced challenges in life, her family said that as far as they knew, she never mentioned suicide or attempted to harm herself. In fact, the family initially hoped the case was an instance of mistaken identity, and that Gulley was not actually the person found hanging in Rocky Butte Park. They weren’t permitted to view Gulley’s body and confirm it was hers until a week after she died.
Titi's friends do not believe that she died by suicide either.
Gulley's friends do not believe she died from suicide. In the weeks following her death, many of them contacted her family, claiming that Gulley had been murdered, and was then hung from a tree to make it look like a suicide. They said there were other homeless people had witnessed it, and that someone had a video.
The Mercury has not independently confirmed any of these rumors. But every time Gulley’s family has attempted to inform PPB about what they have been hearing, they say they have been met with either bureaucratic confusion or cold indifference.
Gulley’s brother, Richard Bryant, used to be a police cadet. He said he isn’t surprised by PPB’s response. “You know they treat a lot of homeless people like they don’t mean nothing to this earth, right?” Bryant said. “So in the homeless community, other people are willing to do hurt to more people, because they know their voices won’t be heard. They’re just homeless.”
Physical aspects of Gulley’s death also strike her family as suspicious. After PPB returned Gulley's belongings to her family, her sister Crystal noticed that Gulley's clothing was muddy. She said it wasn’t like her sibling to go out in dirty clothing—especially on the day she died.
“He was with some women [earlier that day] taking pictures,” Crystal said. "They’d just gotten their faces done. … Everybody that knows my brother knows that if he puts makeup on, he’s trying to be seen.”
Titi was by all accounts a vulnerable individual. She had recently been diagnosed with bipolar disorder and schizophrenia, and was living on the streets.

Paris was one of three people - the others being two gay men - shot at around 5am on Saturday 25th May. Prosecutors allege that the victims were targetted because they were LGBTQ.
Davon Robinson, 18, has been charged with three counts of first degree murder.
DETROIT (FOX 2) - The Wayne County prosecutor said the man suspected of shooting and killing three people and wounding two others in a Detroit home targeted them because they were part of the LGBTQ community.
The Wayne County prosecutor's office says 18-year-old Devon Robinson of Detroit faces three counts of first-degree murder and other charges in the May 25 shooting.
"The alleged actions of this defendant are disturbing on so many levels, but the fact that this happened during Pride Month adds salt into the wound. We must remain ever vigilant in our fight to eradicate hate in Wayne County and beyond," Prosecutor Kym Worthy said in a press release.
Prosecutor's spokeswoman Maria Miller says in an email Friday it's "alleged that these victims were targeted and killed because they were part of the LGBTQ community." She declined to release additional details.
Prosecutors say the shooting killed 21-year-old Alunte Davis, 20-year-old Paris Cameron and 20-year-old Timothy Blancher, all of Detroit. The prosecutor's office says Davis and Blancher were gay men, and Cameron was a transgender woman.

Michelle was found with gunshot wounds in North Philadelphia just after 5am on Sunday 19th May. She died in hospital.
PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- Police are investigating a deadly shooting in North Philadelphia Sunday.
It happened just after 5 a.m. on the 3400 block of North 11th Street.
Officials said a 40-year-old woman was shot in the head, body and buttocks.
The victim was transported to Temple University Hospital where she died a short time later.
Investigators said they found 3 shell casings at the scene.
Philadelphia LGBT officials were heartbroken over Washington’s death.
“I am devastated by the senseless murder of yet another one of our trans sisters. Tamika was a brilliant and outgoing member of Philadelphia’s transgender community, known for her advocacy and mentorship, and she will be profoundly missed. The epidemic of violence that continues to plague the transgender community—disproportionately impacting trans women of color— is heartbreaking, frightening, and infuriating,” said Amber Hikes, the executive director of Philadelphia’s Office of LGBT Affairs.
“The news of the murder and death of Michelle ‘Tamika’ Washington has hit so many in our community hard. More than a news story, she was a friend, a loved one, a beloved. The Mayor’s Commission on LGBT Affairs offers our solidarity, our commitment to #SayHerName, and a commitment to ending the plague of anti-black, anti-trans, and queerphobic violence that plagues not just our nation, but our own local community. Our community is nothing without black trans women, and we will mourn the loss of Michelle ‘Tamika’ Washington today and in the years to come. We pledge to not let her loss be in vain, and to stand with those who both endure and combat this violence on a daily basis,” said Raquel Evita Saraswati, chair of Mayor Jim Kenney’s Commission on LGBT Affairs.

Dallas, Texas (USA)
Muhlaysia was found dead in the street by police in East Dallas at around 6:40 a.m. A month earlier she had been brutally attacked outside apartments in south Dallas.
When a transgender woman was attacked in a Dallas parking lot in April, cellphone camera footage of the episode made national headlines, and the police investigated it as a possible hate crime.
A month later, on Sunday, the Dallas Police Department announced that the woman, Muhlaysia Booker, 23, had been shot and killed. The police said it had no evidence linking the killing to the earlier attack.
Police responded to the shooting call in the 7200 block of Valley Glen Drive at around 6:40 a.m near the Tenison Park Golf Course. She was found dead from a gunshot wound.
At a news conference, Maj. Vincent Weddington said that officers found Ms. Booker shortly before 7 a.m. on Saturday, and that her identity was confirmed on Sunday. They had been responding to a report of a shooting and found Ms. Booker “lying facedown in the street, deceased from homicidal violence,” he said.
Major Weddington added that Edward Thomas, the man who was arrested after he was filmed repeatedly punching Ms. Booker last month, was no longer in police custody, but that there was no indication he was linked to the killing.
At a news conference after she was attacked last month, Ms. Booker stood on a podium and faced a group of supporters, several of whom carried signs in support of transgender people.
“This has been a rough week for myself, the transgender community and also the city of Dallas,” Ms. Booker said.
“This time, I can stand before you,” she added. “Whereas in other scenarios, we are at a memorial.”
In June 2019 Kendrell Lavar Lyles, 34, was arrested and charged with three counts of murder.
Lyles is also the person of interest in the death of Chynal Lindsey, 26, whose body was found in White Rock Lake on June 1.
Police said in May that the 22-year-old murder of Booker had similarities to two other attacks on transgender women, a murder in October and a stabbing in April, of which the victim survived.
In October, Brittany White, 29, was found dead from gunshot wounds in a vehicle parked southeast of Dallas. In April, a transgender woman was stabbed several times and left for dead in South Dallas. The woman survived and gave information on hers attacker.
Police said they were looking for links to another case in which remains of a transgender woman were found in Oak Cliff in 2017. The Dallas coroner had classified the death of Armani Dante Morgan, 27, as unexplained.

John Booth, 61, is charged with felonious assault in connection with the shooting. A warrant was issued for his arrest.
The shooting happened about 4 a.m. Monday in the front yard of a home on East 147th Street, north of St. Clair Avenue in the city’s Collinwood neighborhood.

Fairmount Heights, Maryland (USA)
Ashanti was shot and killed early on the morning of Saturday 30th March.
Fairmount Heights police said they responded to the area of Aspen and Jost streets around 6:23 a.m. after receiving numerous calls for shots fired. At the scene, a transgender woman was located and pronounced dead at the scene after being shot multiple times.
The victim has been identified as Ashanti Carmon, ABC7 has learned.
"I had seen her I believe on Tuesday because she would come through my office at HIPS,” said Earline Budd, a transgender activist.
HIPS is a group with which Budd is associated that finds alternatives to sex work for transgender people.
“She wasn’t someone that frequented the streets a lot, so that’s why it’s so shocking and the community is stunned,” Budd said. “I’ve been getting calls all day about this murder.”
Budd says they try to discourage the transgender women from coming to the area.
“We’ve had quite a few transgender folks who have been assaulted, have been shot, who have been stabbed in that area,” Budd said.
In death, her father erased her identity.
To the dismay of her friends and at least two family members, the father of transgender woman Ashanti Carmon directed a funeral home to change her appearance and dress her body in a man’s suit for a private viewing not long after she was shot to death by an as yet unidentified assailant in Prince George’s County, Md.
“At the end he just wanted to see and remember her as his son because that’s all he knows,” said Deborah Carmon, the father’s sister and Ashanti Carmon’s aunt.
On 11th May a "Celebration of Lives" service was held at Metropolitan Community Church of Washington DC for Ashanti and four other members of the LGBT community who died unexpectedly in the two-week period following her death. Deborah Carmon and her husband were the only family members who attended.

Jazzaline was found dead in her apartment. Her death is now being investigated as a homicide.
Jazzaline Ware, a Black transgender woman, was found dead in her Memphis apartment in March. Her death is being investigated as a homicide, according to The Advocate. “Our community in Memphis is mourning the death of Jazzaline Ware, a Black trans woman and beloved friend,” said the Transgender Law Center in a press release. Further details are unknown as of May 31, 2019.
There are also the times when discrimination turns deadly or nearly so. Jazzaline Ware, a Black transgender woman, was found dead in her apartment in Memphis a little over a month ago, and her death is being investigated as a homicide, Gore says. Then last week in Southaven, Miss., just across the state line from Memphis, a trans woman was shot in both legs with an assault rifle while trying to drive away from a Waffle House restaurant, she says. The woman, whose name has not been made public, is still hospitalized, and one man has been arrested in connection with the crime.
Jazzaline's Facebook profile is https://www.facebook.com/JazzyDaBoss. She was buried by her family on 5th April - the day before her birthday.
Faye reportedly took her own life sometime during the weekend of 23rd/24th February.
Every loss to suicide is an absolute tragedy, and that of Faye is certainly no different. As someone who worked in the adult movie industry her personality and life has probably been subjected to far more scrutiny than most of us, and inevitably for many the person who they remember will be the media personna rather than the real person.
In Faye's case, we can only do what we can to try to balance that out - to give others a chance to remember Faye, the loving wife of Terri, rather than Morena Black, Faye's stage personna.
Faye's wife Terri was kind enough to share the following quote about her:
"She knitted and sewed. She liked cooking Puerto Rican food to expand my horizon. We live on a dirt road in a redneck area. EVERYBODY loved us. Except our nearest neighbors, they're religious types but they never bothered us. She said Meow a lot.
"She did not like the Leftist mindset of our community and watched me get blocked and banned for not having the good sense to shut up on politics. She supported Trump and absolutely despised Kamala Harris. She filled our home with Dixie and Gadsen flags. A dixie flag is NOT racist.
"Her Twitter persona, nor her in person persona towards industry participants, was 180 degrees from the real Faye. She closed her social media, too fake, and finally quit smoking weed. She had just applied for a job at Dollar general because the manager there loved us."

Ellie's body was found by her 15 year old son early on Thursday 31st January. She had been shot.
Ellie was a private citizen investigating the shooting of Michelle O'Connell in 2010, alleged by a serving police officer. She had only changed her name legally the same month.
Deputies say Washtock was a private citizen investigating the controversial St. Johns County shooting death of Michelle O'Connell in 2010. Washtock reportedly put in a public records request on Aug. 22 and received the records on Aug. 30.
Due to Washtock's involvement in the O'Connell case, St. Johns County Sheriff's Office turn the investigation over to the PCSO.
Maj. Steve Rose with the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office told reporters at a Thursday news briefing that investigators considered the death suspicious, but he did not discuss the reasons why. Based on a preliminary investigation, he said it was too early to tell whether the individual died of a self-inflicted wound or whether someone else may have been involved.
As of Monday, the death was still classified as suspicious, the Putnam County Sheriff's Office said.

Montgomery, Alabama (USA)
Dana was found dead in her car at about 11pm on Sunday 6th January. She had been shot.
Police found Martin, 31, in a vehicle in a roadside ditch about 11 p.m. Sunday, the Montgomery Advertiser reports. The newspaper did not mention her gender, and some other media outlets misgendered her, but local activists told The Advocate she was an African-American trans woman. She lived in Hope Hull, an unincorporated area near Montgomery.
Her identity was confirmed by Meta Ellis and Harvey McDaniel, director and educational outreach director, respectively, of Montgomery Pride United and cofounders of the Bayard Rustin Community Center. They have been in touch with police about the case and about the importance of using proper identifiers for trans people, they said. They have also contacted Martin’s friends and intend to reach out to her family.
Martin was apparently shot while driving her car, the activists said. Police have no leads but are continuing to investigate.

Keanna was found dead on the east side of the city by police at around 6am on Friday 7th November. She had been shot.
Authorities were initially investigating claims by a 46-year-old man who told officers that he was robbed in the area and fired a shot, but is unsure if he hit the trans woman. However, on Monday 10th December Sterling Heights Baptist pastor Albert Weathers, 46, was charged with her murder.
The murder which had previously thought to be the result of a robbery gone bad might, in fact, be a hate crime.
Albert Weathers, pastor of The New Mt. Olive Primitive Baptist Church and more recently Logos Baptist Church is charged with open murder and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. The 36th District Court set bond at $1 million according to The Detroit News.
Keanna was an activist. In 2015, she was quoted in UK based newspaper The Guardian speaking about the Detroit police department:
“The police are unaware with our struggle so they have no sympathy for us,” she told the Guardian. “Nobody ever asks, what happened to that person to get here?”
Keanna was quoted in the Guardian speaking on the death of a trans woman, Amber Monroe . This morning, she was killed a few blocks from where Amber died.
Baltimore, Maryland (USA)
Tydi was found with a gunshot wound on the 2400 block of Guilford Avenue at about 4:15 a.m. on Monday 26th November. She died in hospital.
A police spokesman said that there were reports of a loud argument preceding the shots and that a dark-colored car was seen speeding from the scene.
Baltimore police are appealing for help from the public in their investigation into the Nov. 26 shooting death of a transgender woman who was found unconscious on a street after neighbors called police to report a shooting.
Police spokesperson T.J. Smith told the Baltimore Sun in an interview recorded on video that a transgender woman was found unconscious on the side of a street on the 2400 block of Guilford Avenue about 4:15 a.m. on Monday. He said the woman was taken to a nearby hospital where she was pronounced dead a short time later.
“At this time we don’t have a lot to go on,” Smith said in the interview. “We know there was some sort of argument that took place and during that argument it looks like a person – one individual – pulled out a gun and shot the female and left her on the side of the road.”

Orangeburg, South Carolina (USA)
Regina was found dead in her home after an arson attack on 10th October.
Her body was found by firefighers after a passerby called the fire department after seeing a fire in Brown’s home.
Regina Denise Brown, from Orangeburg, was 53 years old and worked as a licensed cosmetologist, a person claiming to be in a relationship with the woman told PinkNews.
“She always was smiling and happy. She always gave encouragement to the younger trans women always highlighting our best features and strong traits. Just an all around great lady with a big heart. She was a very amazing talented big hearted lady,” the person said in an email.
Brown, also known as Gina to her friends, was mourned also mourned by her loved ones on Facebook. “Lost for words, my buddy, my best friend, my beautiful sis, always called me star or boo… Real kind hearted & genuine friend of mines…. Star loves you, & will always remember the good times we had… May you RIP God’s angel…… Gina,” one post in her memory read.
Kenneth Lamont Jenkins, 37, was arrested in connection with the fire and charged with murder on 7th November. He was an ex-convict who had previously served 18 years in prison for armed robbery and possession of a stolen vehicle.

Chicago, Illinois (USA)
Ciara was stabbed multiple times by a man after an argument late on Wednesday 3rd October in the West Garfield Park neighborhood. She died at the scene.
A transgender woman who was found dead with stab wounds late Wednesday in the West Garfield Park neighborhood is believed to have been killed by a person she was arguing with, according to a statement from Chicago police.
At 9:28 p.m., the 31-year-old was with a male inside an abandoned building in the 4500 block of West Adams, police said. As a disagreement between them flared up, he proceeded to stab her and then leave her body in the backyard of the building.
Monica Roberts of Transgriot wrote this about her murder:
"The Chicago Sun Times story I based this post on is being accused of leaving out some disturbing details that I'm hearing about from local trans advocates and people who knew Ciara.
"They allege that the perpetrator mutilated her body by cutting off her genitalia, and the body was nude when it was discovered. Those missing details, if confirmed, escalate Ciara's murder to a hate crime.
"It also fits into the excessive violence beyond lethality pattern that we know is a part of the profile of murders of trans women.
"Her murder is being investigated by Chicago PD Area North detectives.
"Frazier was well known in Chicago's ballroom community, and she was the second trans person to die in the city in less than a month. She is also the 16th Black trans person to die in the US in 2018. "
