Felix was murdered in their bedroom.

It is worth noting that at the time the media tended to conflate sexuality and gender, so trans individuals tended to be identified in the media as "homosexual".

Media coverage of the time pointed to this being part of a series of murders of primarily homosexual individuals in New York.
