Phyllis was strangled by Thomas DeJuan Jarrett. She also had previously tested positive for HIV/AIDS.
Her name was [deadname] Olson, but [she] was known on the streets as Phyllis. [She] was a drag queen who worked Hennepin Av. and Loring Park and had been arrested many times since 1973 for prostitution, posing as a woman. [She] also had tested positive for AIDS.
Olson, 30, who had no permanent address, was found strangled to death on the bridge at 4th St. and 5th Av. N. by a man walking to work in the morning. [She] appeared to have been killed overnight.
On Nov. 18 police, following a Crime Stoppers tip, arrested Thomas DeJuan Jarrett, 34. Jarrett, whose teeth police say match a bite mark found on Olson's body, was charged Friday with second-degree murder.
