Sherri was beaten to death with a hammer during a robbery. Johnny Fitzpatrick also killed two other victims in a similar manner.
A drifter suspected of murdering three people in two states was indicted on a charge of capital murder yesterday by a Monmouth County grand jury.
Johnny Fitzpatrick III, 30, will face the death penalty when he stands trial on charges of murdering 22-year-old John Lombardi New Year's Eve on a deserted road in Manalapan Township, according to the Monmouth County prosecutor's office.
Fitzpatrick is also awaiting indictment on charges he murdered a woman in her Plainfield home Jan. 6 and killed a [trans woman] in [her] Morrisville, Pa., home in June.
In all three cases, Fitzpatrick is suspected of bludgeoning the victims to death during a robbery. Lombardi, a pizza shop operator from Marlboro Township, and [trans woman] [deadname] Ransom, 37, of Morrisville, were beaten to death with a hammer. Janice Y. Robinson, of Plainfield, was beaten to death in her home with a dumbbell, Union County authorities said.
Fitzpatrick also was indicted yesterday on charges of escaping from the Monmouth County Jail, Freehold Township, Feb. 20, with two other inmates. The three were recaptured within 12 hours.
Fitzpatrick is currently being held in the maximum-security Trenton State Prison in lieu of $2.1 million bail. In addition to the capital murder charge, he is accused in the indictment of committing felony murder, armed robbery, possession of a hammer for an unlawful purpose and unlawful possession of the hammer Dec 31 in Manalapan Township.
