Kelly was shot while riding a motorbike with another person (who was also injured). Their assilants were several men, also on a motorbike.

Kelly was a medical student and founder of the trans group Trans Siempre Amigas (Transsa). She also worked as a sex worker.

The motive for the murder is unknown.
