Çağla and her roommate Nalan were shot by two clients after they discovered she was trans. Nalan survived, but Çağla unfortunately did not.
The attack took place at in their apartment on Daracik Street in the Beyoglu Kamer Hatun neighborhood.
Trans women Çağla Joker and Nalan were attacked with a gun on the night of 20 April in Tarlabaşı, and 25-year-old Çağla Joker, who was shot in the chest, died at the scene. HT, who was put on trial for 16 years due to his age reduction being 17 years old, said in his statement at the court, “We met two people we thought were women. We bargained. [She] said [she] was [trans]. I wanted my money back. [She] cursed heavily, saying that [she] would not return the money.”
