Maria's body was found on avenue Nossa Senhora de Fátima in the Lagoinha neighborhood. She had been stabbed 11 times in the neck.

The victim appeared to be a homeless, brown-haired, aged between 35 and 40 years old and had three tattoos - a skull on her left arm, a bar code on her right, and the name Maria Cecília.
