Bruna's body was found with head injuries alongside the SC-157 highway in the centre of Quilombo. A man seen leaving a bar with her has been arrested.
A 23-year-old [actually 26] trans woman was killed after leaving a party in the municipality of Quilombo, in the west of Santa Catarina, at dawn last Saturday (15). A suspect, 21, was arrested after the incident and claimed responsibility for the crime. The identities of the victim and those involved were not released.
According to the Civil Police, the confusion started around 1:20 am, inside a bar alongside the SC-157 in the Cooper neighborhood. At the scene, three men - including the suspect who confessed to the crime - were removed from the nightclub after a fight. At that moment, the victim also left the establishment and left with the trio.
Later, the woman's body was found in a wooded area near the bar. The suspicion is that she was killed by asphyxiation.
The Military Police was called and managed to identify the trio. They were taken to the county police station and, at the suspect's residence, a shirt with traces of blood was found. In testimony, the man said that he entered into a corporal fight with the victim for “personal reasons”, causing the woman's death.
Faced with evidence and testimony, the man was arrested in flagrante delicto for the crime of qualified homicide. Responsible for the case, delegate Alexander Meurer, stated that the case is not being treated as transphobia. During the course of the investigation, other people should be investigated.
