Ekta was shot three times outside her house by two hitmen. She had just got out of her car when the attack took place.
A transgender person was shot dead in Delhi’s GTB Enclave on Saturday evening by unknown assailants. Police said they’re trying to identify and arrest the suspects. The reason behind the murder is not known yet, senior police officers said.
According to the police, the incident took place around 9pm when the transgender person, locally known as Joshi, got off a car and was entering his house in GTB Enclave. Locals and witnesses told police that some unknown men approached Joshi and opened fire.
“[She] was shot thrice and left for dead. A police team that reached the spot rushed [her] to a hospital where [she] was pronounced dead. A post-mortem examination is being done and a case of murder has been registered,” said a police officer who did not wish to be named.
Two men were subsequently arrested:
NEW DELHI: Two criminals, including a notorious shooter, were arrested by Delhi Police’s Special Cell on Saturday for murdering the leader of a transsexual group in September last year.
DCP (Special Cell) Pramod Kushwaha said a rival faction had given Rs 55 lakh to the criminals for the contract killing. “While one of the arrested men, Gagan, had a reward of Rs 1 lakh on his head, the other, Varun, had a bounty of Rs 50,000. Two pistols and five cartridges were seized from them,” he added.
Police said Gagan was involved in over 14 cases, including murder, attempted murder, robbery, etc, in Delhi and Uttar Pradesh.
