Gala Ocampo Figueroa

Gala was an activist with Diversidad Sexual en Morelos. Her body was found with gunshot wounds alongside the local Coahuixtla-Cajones highway on the morning of Monday 18th January.

Amacuzac, MORELOS.- A [trans woman] known as “Gala” was found dead yesterday morning at the entrance to the El Sureño neighborhood. Her body had at least two bullet wounds.

According to police sources, the deceased was officially identified as [deadname] Ocampo Álvarez, 28.

Shortly before 08:30 hours they reported to the authorities that a person was lying on the side of the local Coahuixtla-Cajones highway.

Paramedics who answered the call confirmed that "Gala" no longer had vital signs. Police cordoned off the crime scene and reported it to the South West Regional Prosecutor's Office.

Sexual Diversity Collectives of several municipalities of #Morelos have spoken out for justice in the investigation of the murder of Gala Ocampo, a member of Diversidad Sexual en Morelos and a resident of the municipality of #Amacuzac, who was killed today; her colleagues and friends believe it was a hate crime on the basis of [sexual orientation or gender identity] as Gala Ocampo fought for the rights of transgender people - an issue that has been 'frozen' on the legislative agenda for years.
