Transgender woman, Dominique Jackson, 30, was shot and killed Monday night in Jackson Mississipi. The shooting happened just after 9:30 p.m. on Rose Street at Grand Avenue.
According to investigators, a vehicle struck a utility pole at the scene. A woman, who we identified as 30-year-old Dominique Jackson, was found inside suffering from a gunshot wound. She died at the scene.
WJTV and police misgendered and deadnamed Ms. Jackson, a well-known figure in the local community.
Dominique was a co-founder of BreakOUT! New Orleans, an LGBTQ organisation whose motto is "Fighting the criminalization of LGBTQ youth":
