Catalina died after being stabbed in the neck during a prolonged attack by several people. Her body laid in the street until morning and the emergency services never arrived.
State of Mexico.- Members of the LGBT population reported the death of a trans woman and activist for the rights of the community, in Atizapán de Zaragoza.
According to initial reports, a trans woman identified as Catalina Santos Arévalo was the victim of a hate crime at dawn on August 21.
The incident occurred on the corner of calle Lenin with Descartes in the Tepalcapa neighborhood. The trans woman had been attacked at around 02:00 in the morning.
Catalina Santos Arévalo died at the age of 23 after receiving several stab wounds and a cut to the jugular. Her body was abandoned in colonia Atizapán de Zaragoza. According to information from witnesses and in social network posts, the activist and trans woman had been persecuted for several minutes by her attackers.
The body of Catalina Santos Arévalo stood in the rain for more than four hours until relatives learned what had happened to her. The emergency services never arrived.
