Marcela passed away at home. Reportedly she had experienced prejudice from others since coming out.
A 17-year-old trans teenager was found dead by her mother inside her home on Wednesday afternoon (30), in Juína (740 kilometers from Cuiabá). The young woman had been suffering prejudice because of her gender identity.
According to the incident report, when the police arrived at the residence, located in Module 6, they found the mother “disturbed”. The woman said she left the house and when she returned, she found her daughter hanged with a rope around her neck. Politec (Official Expert for Technical Identification) was called and carried out the on-site expertise procedures.
The young woman was a 3rd year high school student integrated into the IFMT Commerce course - Juína campus.
The institution expressed itself through a note and mourned the death of the young woman. “The academic community expresses its condolences to the family, colleagues and friends,” the note reads.
The board declared official mourning for a day on the Campus “as a sign of regret at the death of the student”.
The State Union of Students of Mato Grosso also mourned the death of the young woman.
“In this moment of sadness, we sympathize with family and friends and reaffirm our fight against LGBTphobia, which takes the lives of countless LGBTQIA + subjects every day”, says an excerpt from the publication.
“Marcela, your voice will never be silenced”, they added.
