Giyo and another man were shot in the street by armed assailants. It is not known whether Giyo or the other victim - Jordy Roque Escalante - was the intended target of the attack.

Giyo (Codificación Runa Sipiy CPTSX00231361), 28 years old, from Guayaquil, Guayas province, Ecuador, was in the north of the city, specifically in Sauces 6, apparently delivering as a way to make a living. According to statements from the authorities, while in that sector he started a conversation with a person who looks after cars in the area. During their conversation they were interrupted by motorized vehicles who shot at both of them, killing Giyo on the spot. The motive for the murder is unknown and whether it was directed at Giyo or the person he was conversing with.
