Khushi's body was found with a stab wound to the chest near a park in the Rohini area of Delhi.
NEW DELHI: The crime branch has said it has solved the case of a transgender person's murder in Rohini last week and arrested two people allegedly involved in the crime.
Police have arrested Reshma alias [deadname] Khan (30) and her live-in partner Mayur Malik (29), both residents of Rohini Sector 16, on the suspicion of murdering [deadname] alias Khushi (26), whose body was found outside the Japanese Park in Rohini by a police officer at 4am on June 29, special commissioner (crime) Ravindra Yadav said. After questioning the duo, the police pieced together a narrative of rivalry over soliciting customers for sex work.
The police checked CCTV footage and found that a car came near the Japanese Park and some people got out and dumped Khushi's body. Police also found out that Khushi had undergone a [reassignment surgery] procedure and solicited customers for sex work near BSA hospital in Rohini at night.
The police tracked down the car, but its occupants on the June 28 night said that Khushi had been stabbed by two persons who came on a bike, overtook the car and then fatally wounded Khushi. The people in the car, who turned out to be Khushi's customers for the night, panicked and dumped the body at the Japanese Park and fled.
The police now started searching for more CCTV footage that could possibly establish the account given by the occupants of the car. They found footage that showed a bike suspiciously tailing the car. The police found out that the owner of the bike was Malik. He was traced down by a team of head constables Ashok and Pradeep and confronted with evidence. He broke down and confessed, the police said. Reshma too was arrested later.
Khushi and Reshma had quarrelled over charging customers earlier. On June 28 around 1.30am, Khushi had allegedly thrashed Reshma after an altercation, they told cops. Minutes later, a car pulled over and Khushi got in and left with the customers. Just then, Reshma's boyfriend, Malik, came arrived on his bike and Reshma and Malik started chasing the car. The duo went near the left front window of the car where Khushi was sitting. They grabbed Khushi and started hitting her. Then they stabbed her and fled.
