Karla died in hospital two and a half weeks after being shot in the forearm and neck.
At around nine o'clock on Monday night, October 16, a member of the LGBTIQ+ community was shot on Calle 17 and Carrera 12, in the La Chinita neighborhood of Barranquilla. Authorities identified the victim as Karla López Padilla, 29, who was surprised by an individual who shot her five times with a firearm, two of them in the left forearm and three in the neck. The gunman fled, while López Padilla was helped and transferred to Camino La Luz Chinita, a medical center from where she was referred to Camino Universitario Adelita de Char. She fought for her life for 18 days.
