Mayla's body was found wrapped in a tarp and dumped alongside the MT-485 highway.

Jorlan Cristiano Ferreira, 44, was convicted of murdering her. A judge described him as cold, calculating and extremely violent. On the day of her murder, Mayla had shared a photo of the licence plate of his car with people close to her, and this helped the police to locate him.

[Name redacted], a friend of trans woman Mayla Rafaela Martins, 22, who was stabbed to death on Tuesday (16), in Lucas do Rio Verde (333 km from Cuiabá), has stated that businessman Jorlan Cristiano Ferreira, 44, was obsessed with the young woman and chased her.

Mayla's body was found wrapped in a swimming pool tarp on the banks of the MT-485, on the Morocó road, between Sorriso and Lucas do Rio Verde, by workers. Upon being detained, Jorlan informally claimed to the police that he was robbed by the woman when he opened his establishment in the city.

During Mayla's wake, this Thursday morning (18), in Várzea Grande, the young trans girl's friends gathered to say goodbye, demanding justice. [Name redacted], who had known the woman for eight years, said that Jorlan premeditated the crime, as he kept threatening her.

"This man, in addition to committing this barbarity with my friend, he premeditated, he murdered her, hid her corpse and disappeared with her cell phone. He had been having romantic encounters with her since the beginning of December. Since his wife traveled, he took her home, they had weekly meetings. There are messages, prints of her saying all this", he declared in an interview with journalists.

"We want justice. Even after she's dead, he's framing my friend as a thief and saying she extorted him. Mayla didn't do that, she didn't carry a knife. She worked and took the money home," he added.

The friend also revealed that Mayla was afraid that something could happen because of the businessman's current behavior. In exchanges of messages with Rebeca, the victim, who worked as a sex worker, said that she had bought a ticket to return to Cuiabá, in order to escape the criminal's persecution, but was murdered first.

"He chased her. He went to where she worked, he already told her not to stay on the street anymore, he was too jealous of her, he was obsessive. She bought a ticket to leave [to Cuiabá], but she didn't come.

She knew that one day this was going to happen, due to his threats. He had threatened her, because he didn't want her to leave. He was obsessed with her", he said.

Mayla was buried this Thursday (18), in Várzea Grande. The young woman's sister used social media to fundraise in order to transfer the body.

Mayla had moved to Lucas do Rio Verde for work in December of the previous year. Her objective was to save money to travel to Europe.
