Daniela García
Age 2613 Sep 2024
Tijuana, Baja California (Mexico)
Shot

Daniela García was shot on the night of Friday 13th September, but her murder was not reported until two months after her murder.
As a result her name does not appear on the official TDoR 2024 memorial list released by Transgender Europe.
The Tijuana LGBTTTIQ+ community activist Edoardo Rodríguez reported that friends of Daniela García managed to free her body after it had spent almost two months in the Forensic Medical Service (Semefo).
She said that Daniela was a trans woman who was shot to death on September 13 in the Sánchez Taboada neighborhood, the same district where she lived. Close friends tried to contact the family, however, there was no reply from them to claim the body from the Semefo.
"We found a friend of hers in the area, who put us in touch and we were able to complete the paperwork at the Attorney General's Office (PGJ), where they fortunately released the body, but how many cases are there of these situations where the body is not released and is sent to the common grave?" he commented.
She said that Daniela, 26 years old and originally from Uruapan, Michoacán, came to Tijuana after fleeing her home due to the violence in her hometown.
"Daniela's body had been in Semefo for exactly two months, and fortunately we have already recovered it so that we can give her a dignified burial, as I believe we should have," they stressed.
They said that they learned about the story through social media, and decided to help her friends give her the burial she deserved.
They added that they do not know the motive for Daniela's murder, however, they are asking the State Attorney General's Office (FGE) to investigate the transfemicide.
Daniela García, a 26-year-old trans woman, was identified and buried after 2 months at the Forensic Medical Service (Semefo), thanks to local LGBTI activists, especially Edoardo Rodríguez.
She was found buried on September 13 in the Sánchez Taboada neighborhood, Tijuana. She came from Uruapan, Michoacán, and her neighbors knew her affectionately as the "tall girl."
Despite her appearance and clothing, the State Attorney General's Office registered her as a man, and without having been able to contact her biological family, they were going to bury her in a common grave. Once her friends identified her and contacted her family, they distanced themselves from her identity and delegated the burial to Daniela's friends.
Daniela's case shows the transphobia still latent in the State Investigation Agency (AEI) and the State Attorney General's Office (FGE).@fge.bc, as well as the lack of protocols to facilitate the identification and recovery of LGBTI victims by their chosen families and the community.
Daniela Garcia is the 57th* victim of transfemicide in 2024, of which we can confirm registration.
This is an under-registration.
