Amanda died while being restrained after being prevented from entering a building. The events that led up to the incident are unclear.
[Trans woman] Amanda Eduarda, 28, killed while trying to break into a building in the Parque Faber neighborhood, in São Carlos (SP), on Monday morning (21), died as a result of asphyxiation caused by a 'mata-leão' chokehold.
The information is contained in the death certificate issued by the on-duty forensic doctor and which was attached to the case's police report.
The building's caretaker was arrested, but was released after a custody hearing and will respond to the case while free. G1 was unable to contact his defense.
He must follow precautionary measures, such as appearing monthly in court and at all acts of the process, not changing address without notifying the court and keeping the address updated, under penalty of revocation of the benefit.
According to witnesses interviewed by the police, Amanda was behaving aggressively and had tried to enter the Iguatemi shopping mall, where she was stopped. She then went to the building located nearby and entered through the window.
In an attempt to restrain her, the building's caretaker applied a "rear naked chokehold", knocking her to the ground and holding her with his knee on her chest. The action was filmed by surveillance cameras.
On Tuesday 29th October councillors of the Municipal Chamber of São Carlos unanimously approved two motions of condolence - one for Amanda's death and another for that of Naira Victoria da Silva
