Sonny died by suicide. He was a stage performer and a talented writer who had completed an unpublished novel before his death.
Sonny was a theater arts major that graduated from Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas in 2021 with a theater arts degree. Sonny was a Dungeon Master - he still kept up with childhood friends that met up once a week with him to play D&D. He adored cats, and cared for his 22 year old cat Star her whole life including her rough senior years.
Sonny was also a transgender advocate that started the first Gay Straight Alliance club at his high school, spoke at the steps Governor’s Mansion in Austin, spoke out in support of reproductive rights and actively supported the works of the ACLU. He was a legend in the Round Rock community!
Sonny was a 2021 graduate of Southwestern University, where he earned a degree in Theatre Arts. His love for the stage was evident in the many plays and musicals he performed in, both at Southwestern and the Georgetown Palace Theatre. One of his most beloved roles was as "Sparky" in Forever Plaid at the Georgetown Palace. A devoted fan of musicals, Sonny especially cherished Les Misérables, which held a special place in his heart-as epic and full of emotion as the man himself.
Beyond the stage, Sonny was a talented writer, completing a novel that, while unpublished, stood as a testament to his creativity and passion for storytelling. He was also deeply committed to advocacy, sharing his experiences as a transgender man to educate and inspire others. As a speaker with PFLAG, Sonny made a profound impact when he spoke at the Texas State Capitol, championing understanding and equality.
Though his time with us was far too brief, Sonny's creativity, compassion, and humor touched us all. He will be deeply missed but forever remembered.
