The victim was shot. No other information is known, but reportedlly they had been on the receiving end of threats.
A 16-year-old trans teenager was shot dead in the early hours of Thursday (23), in the municipality of Primavera, in the Mata Sul region of Pernambuco. The body was found by residents in a rural area known as Engenho Amâncio.
According to witnesses, the crime was expected because the victim had been receiving many threats via cell phone.
The body was collected in the morning and sent to the Legal Medicine Institute (IML) in Palmares.
In a statement, the Civil Police reported that an investigation has been opened and investigations will continue until the facts are fully elucidated.
Last year, 105 trans people were killed in Brazil. Although the country recorded 14 fewer cases than in 2023, Brazil remains, for the 17th consecutive year, the country that kills the most trans people in the world.

The majority of cases, 38%, were in the Northeast Region, which continues to be the one with the highest number of deaths of trans people since 2022. The Southeast Region appears in second place, with 33% of murders, followed by the Central -West, with 12.6% of deaths; the North, with 9.7%, and the South, with 4.9% of cases.
The majority of deaths recorded in Brazil are of trans women or transvestites, who account for 93.3% of the victims. The remaining victims, 6.7%, are trans men. The majority were between 26 and 35 years old (36.8%), were brown (36.5%) or black (26%) and were sex workers.
