Qudsiyah died by suicide. According to the inquest, they were were struggling with their sexuality and gender.
[Editor's Note: This page is included because although we do not know how Qudsiyah identified (one report says that they described themself as "agnostic and genderfluid", but that's all we know), given the facts presented at the inquest it seems appropriate that they be remembered by trans, nonbinary and gender conforming people.]
A troubled teenager took [their] own life during a countryside walk with [their] dad, an inquest was told. Qudsiyah Mahmood, 13, had begged [their] dad, who was in poor health, to take her to Baitings Reservoir, near Ripponden, promising [they] do well in upcoming exams.
However, Bradford Coroner's Court was told today, Thursday, October 16, it was a ploy. The [teenager], who had been struggling with [their] sexuality and feelings about [their gender, died after [suicide method redacted] at the beauty spot at around 1.20pm on May 28.
Assistant Coroner Caroline Chandler determined what had initially been considered a "tragic accident" was actually suicide.
