Kakay was an influencer. She died after being shot by two armed men who broke into her home.
Brazil – In the early hours of Thursday, the 4th, digital influencer [deadname] de Brito Gonzaga, 26, known as Kakay Britto, was brutally shot to death at her home on Rua do Amparo, in the Lobato neighborhood of Salvador's Ferroviário Suburb. A trans woman and a prominent figure on social media, where she amassed around 60,000 followers, Kakay was recognized for her comedy videos, dance routines, and travel stories.
According to the Bahia Civil Police, two armed men broke into the influencer's home and fired several shots before fleeing. Kakay was rescued by a cousin and taken to the Suburb Hospital, but succumbed to her injuries.
Hours before the crime, she published a story on Instagram lamenting the death of a young man identified as Neto, who was allegedly part of the Bonde do Maluco (BDM) faction and was murdered during a confrontation with the Military Police on Tuesday, September 2, in the area known as Corre ou Morre, also in Lobato.
In one of the videos, visibly emotional, Kakay wrote, "I love you forever," and promised to return the next day to interact with her followers. The Department of Homicide and Personal Protection (DHPP) is investigating the case, and so far, the leading hypothesis is that the blogger was killed by members of the Comando Vermelho (CV) to pay tribute to Neto, who was a member of the rival faction.
Security camera footage from the area is being analyzed and may help police identify the suspects and clarify the case.
