Bruna's body was found alongside the BR-235 highway several hours after being kidnapped from her home. Her partner - who was also kidnnapped - escaped.

A 27-year-old woman, identified as Bruna Conceição Souza, was kidnapped and murdered in the early hours of Sunday (14), in Campo Novo do Parecis (386 km from Cuiabá). Her body was found hours later in a corn plantation, on the banks of BR-235, with her hands and feet tied.

According to preliminary information, Bruna was at home with her partner when, in the early hours of the morning, four armed men broke into the residence. The couple were held hostage and the target of an attempted murder. Bruna's partner managed to escape and call for help.

Meanwhile, Bruna was forced into a black vehicle used by the criminals and taken in an unknown direction. The Civil Police and Military Police immediately began a search, but were unable to locate the victim alive.

Hours later, a report indicated the presence of a body in a rural area. Police officers confirmed it was Bruna's at the scene. The Official Forensic and Technical Identification Unit (Politec) was called and cordoned off the scene for forensic investigations.

Five suspects were subsequently arrested in connection with Bruna's murder; a sixth is on the run.
