Maria's body was found in her home with signs of violence. She was a dancer with Lageiro Seco Quadrilha and had been Miss Trans Paraíba in 2017 and 2018.
The head of the Institute of Legal Medicine (IML) of João Pessoa, Flávio Fabres, confirmed this Tuesday (30) that the death of the trans woman found in a residence in the capital presents clear signs of brutal violence and an attempt to defend the victim, during an interview with the program Ô Paraíba Boa, hosted by communicator Fabiano Gomes.
According to Fabres, a full forensic autopsy revealed six facial wounds, a cervical injury, and a cut on the right hand. The latter, he says, is characteristic of a defensive wound, indicating the victim attempted to fight back.
"The body was in an advanced state of decomposition. After a complete forensic autopsy, facial, cervical, and right hand injuries (defense injuries) were identified, resulting from a sharp object. Further tests have been requested. The medical report will be ready within the ten-day legal deadline," stated the head of the IML.
The body was released for funeral arrangements. Confirmation of multiple injuries and signs of a struggle reinforces the suspicion of a violent crime, which had already been suggested by remains found at the victim's home.
