Cormac was killed in a murder-suicide attack by the boyfriend he was planning to leave because he kept trying to convince Cormac to detransition.

He was deadnamed and misgendered in all news reports and by his unsupportive family.

Yesterday was Transgender Day of Rememberance. This year hit really hard because on October 15th, my close friend Cormac was shot and killed.

Cormac was shot and killed in the back while sitting at his computer playing video games by his boyfriend who he was planning to leave at the time. Part of why he was planning to leave was because his boyfriend was trying to convince him to detransition according to a lot of his friends. We will never know why he was shot because the shooter then shot himself afterwards.

Cormac's family wasn't supportive of his transition which lead him to moving across the country, away from Florida, several times. When we met back in 2020, he was living in Kentucky and attending an Indiana Convention. He was living in Georgia when he died. Since his family was legally in charge of everything after his death, all reports, news articles, and even his obituary called him a woman, and by a name that wasn't his for over a decade.

They refused to use recent pictures of him despite having access to hundreds of them, so the picture for his obituary is from 7 years ago when he was in high school before he transitioned. It didn't matter that he came out over a decade ago, that he had been on T for 5 years or got top surgery two years ago. They didn't care about who he was or about remembering him as how he lived, they only cared about who they wanted him to be.

This is why Transgender Day of Rememberance is so important to me, so many of us won't be remembered as who we are, but instead as what people wish we were. It's a cruel reality of being trans, which makes it vital for us to tell the stories of those who died so that their truth can live on.

Cormac was creative, kind, funny, careing, and so much more. He loved animals, especially bunnies, he loved to cosplay, watch Anime, draw, and so much more. He was such a light in this world. He had so many friends, he called all of them his melons (except for me, he jokingly called me his kiwi since I'm allergic to melon). All of us will do our best to remember him for who he was. His discord server has been left to me, and I am doing my best to keep it alive for him. We all love and miss him so much. Server calls aren't the same without him cracking a joke every 5 minutes or doing an interesting craft in the background. I miss calling him when I was bored or needed someone to talk to while doing chores. I will always remember the light he held in my life.
