Alik's death was initially declared to have been by natural causes but authorities subsequently ruled it to have been suicide.

(Important for context: The case was handled by the Hamburg State Criminal Police Office and, according to a tip-off, was only recently closed as a suicide, after the authorities had initially suspected and declared a natural cause of death. The sister and mother of the deceased trans man denied the assumption of a natural death from the outset).
The TDoR organising team in Hamburg only became aware of Alik’s death a few days before last year’s event. We gave both relatives the opportunity to speak, paid tribute to him and mourned together in a minute’s silence.
In Germany, there are no reports on suicides unless they are carried out in a way that attracts public attention.
Three months after Alik's death his sister Patricia gave an interview in which she spoke about how he suffered from inadequate medical care, describing structural discrimination, economic pressure, and transphobic prejudices within the healthcare system.
