Grecia and her partner were both found dead several days after the couple had been reported missing. The case is being investigated as a possible hate crime or a murder suicide.
A couple was found dead in Tehuacán, and the case is being investigated as a possible hate crime because one of the victims identified as a trans woman.
They are Grecia Nery and Ángel Emilio Sánchez Rodríguez. Grecia was Miss Trans Veracruz in 2023, and worked as a manicurist and designer. Ángel Emilio was a medical student at BUAP Tehuacán, originally from Veracruz.
Grecia Nery, 19, previously went by the name [deadname] Contreras García and was in a relationship with Ángel Emilio Sánchez Rodríguez, 21.
The two were reported missing on November 1, 2025, in the La Purísima neighborhood of Tehuacán. Grecia's family filed investigation file 1612/2025 with the State Attorney General's Office after she failed to return home.
According to her family, the young trans woman was going out with some friends and her partner, Ángel Emilio Sánchez Rodríguez. Grecia was wearing a cheerleader outfit, apparently because they were going to a party.
The Specialized Prosecutor's Office for the Investigation of Crimes of Forced Disappearance of Persons and Disappearance Committed by Individuals began the investigations on November 3.
Preliminary reports suggest this could be a hate crime. Grecia's body was found with signs of asphyxiation, while Ángel Emilio's body appears to have been a suicide. The way the bodies were found suggests that Ángel Emilio may have killed Grecia and then taken his own life.
The Puebla Prosecutor's Office is currently recovering the two bodies while further lines of investigation are being pursued. Information from those involved in the recovery indicates that there may also have been a suicide note, but this has not been confirmed.
