Treinti died after being run over by a police patrol car which was reportedly driving at night without lights. The officer's involved have not been identified.
On Tuesday night, November 18, a Buenos Aires Provincial Police patrol car ran over and killed trans photographer Treinti in Ciudad Evita. The information was shared by friends of the artist on social media, where they reported that the police vehicle was driving without lights at the time of the impact.
The allegations surrounding Treinti's death went viral among figures in the music and art world, with artists like Taichu, Lali, and BB Asul sharing the information and demanding that the case be brought to light by the media. Among their main demands, her family and friends are calling for the identification of the patrol car involved, the names of the officers present, and an update on the investigation.
Treinti was a renowned photographer in the Argentine music scene. Recently, she had photographed leading figures such as Ángela Torres, Cazzu, J Balvin, and Tiago PZK, among others.
“70% of the people I follow have a photo taken by her,” wrote singer Blair on social media, highlighting the complete lack of official information and media coverage. In addition to her profession, the young trans woman was known for her activism within the LGBTQ+ community .
The Women Photographers Collective released a statement asserting that “on November 18th of this year, she was run over and killed by a patrol car with its lights off.” They further stated that “ she was standing still, not crossing the street, nor in any other dangerous location .”
Regarding the events, they added that “the police removed the body and took it to a hospital.” They also reflected on the role of the media and the lack of coverage given to the issue: “Why aren’t the media talking about this? Who cares about trans lives?” they asked.
