Daniela died in suspicious circumstances after being detained in a police station.
SALTA (Voces CrÃticas Newsroom) The Femicide Prosecutor's Office has opened an investigation into the death of a 34-year-old transgender woman, which occurred last night at the Rosario de Lerma hospital. The victim had been detained minutes earlier at a local police station, and prosecutors are seeking to determine whether the custody protocol was followed.
The young woman's death occurred after a police operation in Plaza Evita, where officers intervened after observing four people consuming alcoholic beverages. Three left the scene without incident, while the transgender woman was detained for refusing to identify herself. After a routine medical examination, she was taken to the Second Police Station to complete the identification process.
According to the prosecutors' preliminary report, when police officers went to the cell to inform her that she would be released, the woman allegedly attempted suicide using an article of clothing. At that moment, the emergency protocol was activated, and resuscitation efforts were performed while an ambulance was requested, amidst a tense atmosphere due to the severity of her condition.
The victim arrived at the Rosario de Lerma hospital around 9:48 p.m., where the medical team tried to stabilize her; however, minutes later her death was confirmed, which opened an urgent investigation to reconstruct each step of the procedure.
The UFEM (Special Prosecutor's Office for Violence Against Women) has already taken steps to determine whether the arrest, medical examination, and cell supervision were carried out in accordance with current regulations. They will also review security camera footage, statements, and internal protocols to establish responsibility and fully clarify what happened. Reported by Voces CrÃticas.
