We share with deep sorrow the tragic news of the passing of a member of our trans community.
Tomiris Kussianova was a remarkable figure in Tbilisi’s queer scene and activism — a person with an extraordinary ability to build bridges between people. With this very energy, she strengthened connections between activists in Georgia and Kazakhstan.
Many circumstances surrounding this tragic incident remain unclear at this stage. In a context where Georgian legislation and current investigative practices fail to ensure thorough, sensitive, and impartial inquiries into cases involving trans people, it is difficult for us to accept the publicly circulated versions of what happened.
Sadly, in both Georgia and Kazakhstan, the systemic neglect of trans people and the violations of their fundamental rights remain critical issues. Many are forced to migrate in search of safety, yet even in migration they often face violence, discrimination, and institutional indifference.
In this painful moment, we call for solidarity:
it is especially important to support our migrant community members, mobilize resources, and stand by one another.
Let us support each other.
Let us share the grief.
Let us strengthen one another.
