Sheila (some sources name her as Sheyla) was shot in the back by a civil police officer. Her killer was arrested at the scene.
A transgender woman, a resident of Jardim Serrano, in Votorantim, was shot dead in the early hours of Monday (2), in the South Zone of São Paulo. According to investigations, Sheila Costa, 35, was murdered by civil police officer Paulino Domiciano Antonio. A brother of the victim went to the capital on Tuesday morning (3) to bring Sheila's body to be viewed in Votorantim. There is still no information about the location and time of the wake.
According to G1 São Paulo, the police officer, who voluntarily presented himself at the police station after the crime, claimed he was the victim of an attempted robbery, but reports indicate he did not call the police or file a police report after the incident.
Witnesses told police they heard five gunshots around 4:55 a.m. Images from cameras near Alameda dos Guainumbis, in the Planalto Paulista neighborhood, show that she was shot in the back and appeared to have nothing in her hands. Before the shots were fired, a witness heard someone shout: "Go, go, go, you son of a bitch." According to the witness, the perpetrator was in an old car, the model of which could not be identified.
The shooter claimed the woman had stolen his cell phone. According to the São Paulo State Public Security Secretariat (SSP), the police officer was arrested on the spot and taken to the headquarters of the Civil Police Internal Affairs Department, which will investigate the circumstances of the crime and the responsibility of the individual involved. The case will be investigated as a femicide.
Sheila was found by military police with a gunshot wound to the chest, already without vital signs. The SAMU (Emergency Medical Service) was called, but the victim's death was confirmed at the crime scene. A bag containing belongings, but without a cell phone or documents, and some cash were found at the scene. Sheila's body was only removed from the location four hours later, around 9:30 AM.
