A transgender woman known as Naomi was found dead inside her own home last week in Praia da Pipa, in the municipality of Tibau do Sul, on the southern coast of Rio Grande do Norte. According to police information, she was the victim of stab wounds. The Civil Police of Rio Grande do Norte confirmed that it has opened an investigation to determine the circumstances of the death. In a statement sent to the SAIBA MAIS Agency, the corporation reported that teams were called, carried out the initial investigations at the scene, and began inquiries.
The case caused strong outrage among residents of the region and resonated on social media. Associação Potiguar de Travestis e Transexuais na Ação pela Coerência no Rio Grande do Norte (Attransparência/RN) published a public statement demanding justice. “Justice for the murder of Naomi! Another trans person killed in Rio Grande do Norte. We cannot let this crime go unpunished; the population of Pipa beach in Tibau do Sul cries out for justice,” the organization declared.
To date, there is no confirmation of suspects nor information about the motive for the crime. The Civil Police reiterated that anonymous tips can be made through the Crime Reporting Hotline 181 and can contribute to the progress of the investigations.
